Email me. | ResearchI am a Physical Oceanographer studying both coastal and open ocean processes from an observational and a modeling perspective. My interests include the study of surface salinity variability, baroclinic processes, frontal dynamics, upwelling events, and the interaction between continental shelf circulation and larger scale currents. Some of the tools used for this work include numerical ocean models and data assimilation. Currently, I'm part of the SMOS (Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity) Barcelona Expert Center (BEC). My work is part of the Level 3-4 activities that include the integration of in situ buoys data and ocean circulation numerical models for the validation of SMOS salinity products. My latest work is studying the modal characterization of surface salinity variability both from observations and models. This work is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Jordi Font . Previous work include the study of episodic events using a coastal ocean observing and prediction system (SEACOOS, www.seacoos.org) and the study of the circulation dynamics associated with Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) in the Gulf of Maine, more especifically in the Bay of Fundy in a project led by Dr. Dennis McGillicuddy.

Professional BackgroundI have a B.S. degree in Marine Sciences (1998) from the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences (Physical Oceanography) from the UNC Chapel Hill (2005). I worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Marine Sciences at UNC Chapel Hill (2006). Then, I worked as a post-doctoral investigator at the Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department (AOPE) at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, WHOI (2007). I am currently working as a post-doctoral Juan de la Cierva investigator at the Institut de Ciencies del Mar, CSIC in Barcelona, Spain.
