Línies de recerca:
Sediment and geochemical fluxes. Anthropogenic impact on marine sedimentary systems. Initially trained as a Geologist (degree in 1981), he got a Master Degree in Marine Geology in the University of Barcelona. Dr. Palanques conducted his doctoral studies at the Institut of Earth Sciences “Jaume Almera” (CSIC) and he got a PhD in Marine Sciences about marine sediment dynamics and geochemistry by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He conducted a postdoctoral stage at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University (USA) working on shelf-edge exchange processes.
Back in Barcelona at the Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC) he started new research lines in sediment and geochemical fluxes and also in anthropogenic impact on marine sedimentary systems, mainly in continental margins, forming a research group. He is presently Research Professor and Director of the Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC) in Barcelona.
He has written more than 160 papers, 130 of them in international peer-reviewed journals. He has been the Coordinator of several research projects and has participated as CSIC scientific responsible in several EU projects. He has also participated in ONR and NSF Research Projects and has been the principal investigator in several contracts with private companies and Administration. He is the responsible of a Quality Research Group (recognised by the Catalan Autonomic Government) with more than 10 PhD and senior researchers.
