Rethinking resilience: can we make the concept useful for marine ecology & conservation?

Share

Summary

Resilience has become one of the most pervasive concepts in science and one of the most
inconsistently defined. In this seminar, we will revisit the concept and its origins, confront its use and misuse, and ask how it can be made genuinely useful for theoretical ecology and marine conservation alike.

Brief biography

I am a Lecturer at the University of Barcelona working on the impacts of global change on biodiversity. My work aims to better understand the resilience of species to global change to develop effective management and conservation tools. To do that I combine the use of small-scale experiments, field data, large-scale data, together with a wide variety of modelling techniques, to better understand, predict and manage species resilience.
