The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM), the largest center for multidisciplinary marine science in Spain, with a leading role in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean region, is committed to attracting international talent, promising researchers whose expertise aligns with our research priorities and challenges.
#theERCjourney is an ICM support programme that provides a set of resources, incentives and guidance to help researchers become more familiar with ERC grants and prepare a competitive proposal to be hosted at ICM.
As part of our efforts in promoting participation in the ERC funding scheme, we are currently offering:
- 4-day visitor’s programme aimed to facilitate the establishment of effective collaborations within the ICM (tentatively first week of July 2025).
- Support during the proposal writing phase (graphic design, grant advisory from external consultants, budget drafting) and guidance for step 2 interview preparation.
- Full administrative assistance for the ERC application.
- Competitive researcher contract during the ERC project (75k- 115k€/year) and institutional support to secure a permanent position if the proposal is granted.
How to apply to #theERCjourney support programme?
Interested candidates* should send their expressions of interest before June 1st, 2025 by email to: talent-osr@icm.csic.es including: 1) a full CV; 2) a motivation statement detailing: your relevant experience, interest in developing an ERC project at ICM**, the main topic of your proposal, the name of an ICM researcher/research group who will serve as your initial scientific ambassador and the selected ERC funding scheme (Starting Grant, Consolidator Grant, Advanced Grant or Synergy Grant). The subject of the email should follow this format: “ICM Call 4 EoIs ERC Grants - NAME FELLOW”.

** Candidates are invited to contact potential collaborators from the ICM research groups .
Each candidate’s expression of interest will be reviewed by the ICM Scientific Strategy Committee, which will assess: (1) the scientific track record; (2) personal motivation; and (3) the relevance and potential of the research proposal in alignment with ICM's research strategy.
