The role and the team

We are recruiting an enthusiastic and highly motivated professional to work within the project “Effects of Anthropogenic Impacts on Marine Microbiomes (EAIMM)”. The successful candidate will be integrated in the ICM’s Ecology of Marine Microbes group, within the Department of Marine Biology and Oceanography, under the supervision of Dr. Felipe Hernandes Coutinho. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out tasks related to the stages of: sampling, sample processing, experiments, data analysis, and sissemination of findings within the project. 

Job description

The successful candidate will be involved in: 

  • Planning, preparing and carrying out sampling throughout coastal ecosystems.

  • Processing microbiome samples in the laboratory for metagenomics and metaviromics

  • Culturing and isolating bacteria from environmental samples

  • Analyzing 2nd generation sequencing datasets through state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools

  • Carrying out analysis of metagenomic datasets for microbial ecology

  • Communicating findings in local seminars and conferences

  • Participating in writing and publication of scientific papers

Requirements

Professional experience

  • A Bsc degree in the field of biological or environmental sciences or equivalent (e.g. Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Oceanography, Environmental Sciences)

  • Experience in environmental microbiology and/or virology

  • Optional: Experience in marine biology and Oceanography

Languages

  • Fluency in English (B2 or above)

Competences and IT skills

  • Intermediate or advance skills in data analysis tools such as R, Rstudio, or Python

  • Public speaking skills

  • Adaptability, Autonomy, and Team player attitude

The offer

We are offering a contract with the following conditions:

  • Estimated annual gross salary: Salary will be in the range of €26.500 - €28.500 approximately, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and consistent with CSIC pay scales. 

  • Working time: Full-time contract with flexible working hours and possibility of teleworking up to 3 days a week. Read more about work-life balance here.
