The role and the team
We are recruiting an enthusiastic and highly motivated professional as a Laboratory Technician. The successful candidate will be contracted for the MostFun “Monitoring Strategies and Tools to address knowledge gaps on aquatic Fungal biodiversity” project (Biodiversa+). The candidate will be integrated in the Littoral Biological Processes (PBL) research group, from the Dept. of Marine Biology and Oceanography (ICM).
Job description
The successful candidate will be involved in:
- Organization, preparation and participation in sampling campaigns in brackish and marine coastal areas from the Catalan coast.
- Processing of water and sediment samples for further molecular analyses.
- Observation of live samples by light microscopy.
- Establishment and maintenance of target microorganisms cell cultures.
- Performance of basic molecular laboratory procedures.
- Participation in regular meetings with the Project Consortium Team.
- Support in data management, Nagoya’s protocol, labor risk prevention, and internal ICM bureaucracy.
Requirements
Job position
- Accredited experience in the functions above described or similar tasks.
Academic studies
- Master in Natural Sciences, Genetics, or related program (for the M3 contract).
- Degree in Biology, Marine Sciences or related.
Languages
- Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
Competences and IT skills
- Very good interpersonal communication, networking and team playing skills
- A well-organized person with attention to details.
- Proactive, flexible, and problem-solving attitude.
The offer
We are offering a contract with the following conditions:
- Estimated annual gross salary: Gross salary will be around 32.000 € / year, consistent with CSIC pay scale for M3 contract (Master).

- Duration: 1 year.
- Target starting date: Between September and November 2024.
