I am part of the SPEAD (Simulation Plankton Evolution with Adaptive Dynamics) project, with Pedro Cermeño, Sergio Vallina and Luis Martín de Pablo. I build a numerical model of a phytoplankton community, representing the adaptive evolution of the means and variances of its physiological traits (size, optimal temperature, optimal irradiance) in response to its environment. Trait diffusion through subsequent generations, a mathematical framework to represent mutations, is included. This model could be used to better predict the response of ecosystems to climate change scenarios.
