Fernando Ángel Fernández-Álvarez

Investigador/a Postdoctoral

I have been developing taxonomic, phylogenetic and natural history studies on different marine and terrestrial invertebrate taxa. My main group of interest is cephalopods, ranging from taxonomy and phylogenomics, to trophic ecology, reproductive biology and early development of eggs, embryos and paralarvae obtained both by natural spawning or in vitro fertilization.

I pioneered in the development of molecular dietary assessment of squid paralarvae through DNA metabarcoding of histology slides processed by Laser-Capture Microdissection. I work with most part of the biodiversity of cephalopods, including deep-sea, oceanic and coastal squids and octopus, cuttlefishes and bobtails.
