The 7th International Workshop on Marine Technology MARTECH concludes today, organized by scientists and technicians from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), both from Marine Technology Unit (UTM) and Marine Science Institute (ICM), and also from the Technological Development Centre of Remote Acquisition and Data processing Systems from Polytechnic University of Catalunya (Sarti-UPC).

The aim of these three days (26, 27 and 28 of October), that have taken place in the facilities of the Mediterranean Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CMIMA-CSIC), was to gather national and international research groups together with specialised companies, working on leading marine technology.

The event has count with the significant support and sponsorship of 11 companies involved in development of marine technologies such as ÁLAVA INGENIEROS, GRAFINTA, EMS Sistemas de Monitorización Medio Ambiental, ACSM Advanced Crew and Ship Management, FUGRO, KONGSBERG MARITIME, QUALITAS REMOS, CASCO ANTIGUO OCEANOGRAFÍA, CLS COLLECTE LOCALISATION SATELLITES, INNOVA, NAUTILUS OCEANICA. These companies presented new generation oceanographic instrumentation in the ambit of acoustics, marine sensors and other necessary components to do first quality research. On the other hand, Sarti-UPC, UTM and ICM researchers presented conferences about last on-going research and current technologies.

Juan José Dañobeitia, UTM research professor and main responsible of the organization of the workshop, emphasises the success of this edition: “this year with MARTECH we have reach an important objective, that is the full internationality of the event with the participation of 7 European countries and also EEUU, and a total of 80 experts including engineers, scientists and technologic projects managers, representing 28 European and North-american scientific institutions leading marine research technology and data modelling”.

In the topics addressed stand out marine robotics, multidisciplinary systems for data acquisition and the develop of european submarine laboratories, as EMSO ERIC, or the challenges of marine research on extreme areas as polar zones.
