On June 21, coinciding with the summer solstice, the ICM celebrated the Ocean Sampling Day, a day of exploration of the ocean, a campaign of simultaneous sampling at 167 stations located in different seas and oceans of the world and focused on the study of marine microorganisms. Coinciding with the sampling, an outreach event was carried out by scientists of the Department of Marine Biology and Oceanography of the Institut de Ciències del Mar and of the CEAB. During the event we spread the research carried out in the Microbial Observatory of Blanes Bay, where samples are taken monthly for over 15 years.
In the Paseo Maritimo, a track-laboratory was installed and the visitors could observe under the microscope the samples freshly collected during the morning sampling. In addition, different activities and games related to the sea were offered to the visitors, both for adults and for children. The day concluded with a series of scientific conferences as homage to Dr. Ramon Margalef.
