The third edition of the Ramon Margalef Summer Colloquia is starting today at the facilities of the Institute of Marine Sciences, and it will last until the Friday 10th of July.
This year’s colloquium is devoted to “Patterns and processes in boundary marine ecosystems”. It will examine the central role played by boundaries in the marine environment: from the small to the large scales, within the ocean itself, and at the interphases of the ocean with the atmosphere and of the water column with the sea floor. This edition will include morning lectures, afternoon discussions and practical activities on remote sensing and video analysis.
About 20 students from different countries, including PhD students from the Institute of Marine Sciences, will attend the Colloquium. It will be a unique opportunity for them to interact with leading marine scientists from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, University of Cambridge, Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, Università dei Salento, Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arizona State University, Stony Brook University and Institute of Marine Sciences.
This third edition of the Ramon Margalef Summer Colloquia has been jointly organised by the Institute of Marine Sciences and the Catalan Association of Oceanographers, with the institutional support of the the Generalitat de Catalunya (the Catalan regional government) the CEIMAR (Campus de Excelencia Internacional del Mar) and the ICM.
