My scientific objectives are related to marine plankton ecology and biogeochemistry. I have been interested in understanding how nutrient fluxes are mediated by trophic food webs and how these fluxes are influenced by the variability of physical factors. In particular, I have studied the effects of small-scale turbulence on nutrient uptake by microorganisms, stoichiometry of organic matter and plankton interactions. Later, I became interested in biogeochemical questions related to the characterization and remineralization of organic matter from different sources and in different environmental conditions. To achieve my objectives, I combined field studies with theoretical and experimental work.
