Optimism, clarity and rigor: the new ICM brand is built with these values, showing a renewed website and visual image.

We are glad to finnally publish the work that has been developed for a long time with great enthusiasm and affection: at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) de Barcelona we have renewed our website and corporate image!
The Decade of the Oceans (2021-2030) is about to start and we believe there is no better time to renew ourselves and show our new face. It has been a process of intensive work in which we have carried out an exhaustive exercise in self-prospecting and redefining our strategy. That has led us not only to improve our image but also to redefine our vision, our motto and our values, all of them aligned with the current scientific, environmental and social challenges.
Our goal is to continue developing excellent marine research to inspire a society in harmony with the big blue, which remains the great unknown even to us. Only in this way we will be able to build the future we imagine for our oceans, which are our greatest ally in the fight against great challenges such as climate change.
“Our image is a public expression of what we want to be. To reach this definition we have made an important effort of introspection and a serious reflection on where we are”, explains Josep Lluís Pelegrí, researcher and the director of the ICM, for whom the new image is not a “static route ”, since it will change over time "because nothing is written."
"The parentheses that we make today by identifying ourselves and presenting our new brand will help us to see what we are aiming at", says the director, who talks about the current one as "a particularly necessary parenthesis in this period of uncertainty and global reflection on the sustainability of the current social model”.
"Our image and website will show this utopia, this wonderful individual, collective and institutional path that goes through cooperative work in defining and progressing towards transversal challenges and innovative strategies," adds Pelegrí, who concludes by reminding that "the vision and the integrative work that we carry out at the ICM -from microscopic plankton and grains of sand to global teleconnections and planetary connectivity- are focussed on serving the society and the planet.”
Commitment to the future
At ICM we are committed to this change that will be possible only if we cooperate with each other and try to challenge the status quo to give science a boost. Furthermore, to meet this challenge, optimism, clarity and conciseness must accompany us so that our message receives the widest public attention.
These are the values that make up the design of the new website and the visual universe of the brand, which now shows an image more faithful to the principles of the ICM, its organizational structure and the scientific challenges that the Institute is facing from the rigor and the science of excellence for almost seven decades.
Our new visual image and the new website, together with a reinforced research and communication strategy, express our leadership, determination and commitment towards a better tomorrow for our sons and daughters and our planet, as well as reflects our effort and enthusiasm to build the future that we imagine for our oceans.
