My research expertise is on marine biology. Specifically, my research focuses on the study of toxic or harmful coastal phytoplankton species and the problems caused by blooms of these species with respect to the environment and public health. I work on the taxonomy of phytoplankton species and on the organisms’ spatio-temporal distributions as well as their population dynamics, including the respective regulatory factors, biotic and abiotic. My research also involves monitoring of the events caused by phytoplankton proliferations (foams, mucilage, respiratory problems of bathers, water discolorations, faunal mortality) in collaboration with public entities and characterization of the species found in the NW Mediterranean. Within my tasks, the samplings in the coastal areas, the isolation and culture of microalgae are also included.
