My education is in marine biology, and I hold a PhD in marine spatial ecology with a focus on cold-water coral reef habitats I worked on a variety of multidisciplinary themes, including ecology, geology, biology, and oceanography, ranging from coastal shallow seas to the deep ocean. I use robotics (ROVs, UAVs, AUVs, ASVs) to collect acoustic (multi-beam, SSS, sub-bottom profilers) and optical information about the environment and extract geospatial information. I use advanced statistical techniques to investigate the spatial organisation of benthic organisms and habitats across a range of spatial scales. I specialise in Structure from Motion and Landscape ecology of cold-water coral reefs, other deep-sea benthic habitats, and seagrass habitats. I am currently conducting research in the NE Atlantic, Azores, Mediterranean Sea, and Belize.
