Nina Hoareau is an oceanographer and Technical Research Staff member at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) in Barcelona, where she has worked since 2010. She holds a PhD in Marine Sciences and has extensive experience in physical oceanography, with a particular focus on sea surface salinity, satellite data validation, in situ observations and oceanographic data processing. Her work combines satellite remote sensing with field oceanography and oceanographic instrumentation. She has participated in numerous research cruises in the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and Southern Ocean, contributing to CTD observations, water sampling, and the preparation, programming, deployment and recovery of oceanographic instruments and moorings. Her current activities include polar oceanography, freshwater and salinity monitoring, deep-ocean circulation studies and the quality control of oceanographic datasets. She is also involved in scientific sailing and citizen-science initiatives, using observations collected from research and opportunity vessels to improve our understanding of the ocean and its role in the climate system.
