The new methodology, which will help improve tsunami monitoring and warning systems, has been used to explain the unknown causes of the tsunami generated by the 1992 Nicaragua earthquake.

According to the research, carried out with the support of ISDIN and CaixaResearch of the "la Caixa" Foundation, the use of vinegar as a rinsing solution in first aid protocols can be harmful if it is not applied to the correct species.

This will take place as part of the Arctic Century Expedition, which will last more than a month and has been jointly organised by the Russian Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI), the Swiss Polar Institute (SPI) and the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR).

The research team aims to understand and predict how the Costa Brava beaches will change in the coming decades.

A new study led by the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) and the CREAF highlights the effects of fishing on the dynamics of fish populations and, therefore, on fisheries.

Previous studies had pointed to other tectonic sources, although these did not explain either the magnitude of the earthquake or the dimensions of the subsequent tsunami.
