Based on isotope analysis, a team of scientists from the ICM, the IEO and the ULPGC has demonstrated, for the first time, the importance of microbes in the entire marine food chain.

This new approach developed by the ICM, the IEO and JAMSTEC represents, for the first time, the adaptive evolution of phytoplankton to climate change and will help to improve predictions of its response to upcoming changes.

The campaign, in which the ICM, the UTM and the UB are involved, will study the geochemical signal of the waters that are formed in the Mediterranean and exported to the Atlantic through the Strait of Gibraltar to assess their sensitivity to climatic oscillations.
