The head of research in Catalonia was satisfied with the meeting and expressed his willingness to strengthen the ties with the ICM-CSIC.
The Catalan Government's General Director of Research and Universities, Joan Gómez Pallarès, visited today the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC) in Barcelona. The visit has served to explain to the head of research in Catalonia the main strategic objectives, lines of research, needs and institutional challenges facing the Institute.
Gómez Pallarès was received by the director of the ICM-CSIC, Valentí Sallarès; the vice-director of Transfer and Knowledge, Francesc Piferrer; the manager, Marta Vendrell; the assistant vice-director of Scientific-Technical Services, Eva Calvo; the assistant vice-director of Scientific Culture, Carine Simón; the assistant vice-director of Equality, Esther Garcés; the head of the Severo Ochoa project, Josep M. Gasol and the coordinator of the Research Support Office, Sònia Sagristà.
Gómez Pallarès was satisfied with the meeting, which has allowed him to learn more about the activity of the Institute. In this sense, he commented that he sees "many possibilities of collaboration between the Generalitat and the ICM-CSIC".
On the other hand, the ICM-CSIC director has focused on some of the Institute's flagship projects, as well as others that are yet to come. This is the case of IcatMar, a cooperative organ between the Catalan Government and the Institute for the acquisition of data to facilitate the governance of the marine environment, or “Barcelona Mar de Ciència”, a place devoted to open science to the public that will materialize in the coming months.
These initiatives highlight the ICM-CSIC's commitment to the transfer the knowledge generated at the Institute to public administrations, private companies and the general public.
The ICM is the largest marine research centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the one that covers the widest range of scientific disciplines in the marine field. With the aim of studying the ocean to improve the planet’s health, the Institute's researchers carry out excellent basic and applied research, as well as knowledge transfer and dissemination activities.
