The service maintains monoclonal cultures of different marine species of viruses, bacteria, microalgae, protozoans, and copepods. Some of these strains have been kept in the service for more than 10 years; others were recently isolated from the field. The strains are maintained under controlled conditions of light, salinity and temperature.
